Grammar: Verb (to be) using (There is - There are)

 We use there is / there are to say that something exists or doesn't exist.

Affirmative Form:

There is + singular noun

e.g. There is a car in front of the bank.

There are + plural noun

e.g. There are cars in front of the bank.

There is + uncountable noun

e.g. There is some sugar in the kitchen.

Negative Form:

There isn’t + singular noun

e.g. There isn’t a car in front of the bank.

There aren’t + plural noun

e.g. There aren’t cars in front of the bank.

There isn’t + uncountable noun

e.g. There isn’t any sugar in the kitchen.

Question Form:

A) Is + there + singular noun

Are there + plural noun

There is a key in the bag.

e.g. There are keys in the bag.

Is there a key in the bag?

e.g. Are there keys in the bag?

B) How many + plural + are there …?

e.g. How many seats are there in the stadium?

How many books are there on the shelf?
